Planning Your Trip

What to Bring:

Warm Clothes (layering system is ideal, as temperatures can range from 40-80 degrees)

Rain Gear

Waders

Polarized sunglasses

Sun Screen

Bug Dope

Head Nets and Bugaboo Shirts (mosquitoes are the worst in June)

Camera

Toiletries

Fly Fishing:

Prepare on using a 10wt rod for Kings and

an 8wt. rod for Silvers.

Have a quality reel with a heavy durable

drag.  Fly fishing manufactures such as Ross, Lamson, and Galvin made

excellent reels for big game fish.

Bring an assortment of fly patterns in different colors.  Patterns such as yarn flies,

egg-sucking leeches, hare ball leaches, flash flies, marabou flies, etc. all work great

for both Silvers and Kings.  Flies tied in black, purple, chartreuse, and orange work

well on Kings, while pink, chartreuse, and fuchsia are hot tickets for silvers.

Bring both a floating and multi-tip line with different sink tips.

Leader Material  (Maxima Ultra Green is some of the best)

Gear Fishing:

Unless planning to rent, bring the rod or rods of your choice. If you are fishing for Kings using a

spin or bait casting set up, you will want to have an 8 1/2 - 9 ft. heavy action

rod.

Having a quality reel is perhaps the most important item to  have.  Realize that these hogs (kings) can get into the 60lbs range and are fresh from salt--your reel’s drag will be put to the test.  The manufacturers of Shimano and Abu Garcia both make great spin and bait cast reels.

Maxima Ultra Green Line (20-30lbs. for Kings) and     (8-15lbs for Silvers). Bring extra.

Hollow Core Lead 1/4" Diameter (sold in spools)

Bring 4/0 Hooks for Kings and 2/0 or smaller for Silvers.  Gamakatsu makes a good

hook.

Vibrax Blue Fox Lures: size 5's and size 4's work great for both Kings and Silvers.

Make sure to get a variety of colors.  The best colors are usually blue, green, and

orange.  Some days the rainbow color, blacks, and pinks are the ticket.

Egg Yarn (fluorescent orange and chartreuse)

Take into consideration that some spots are very  snaggy

and you will

lose gear.

Figure on going through 12 terminal tackle rigs/sets per day/per angler.
